| How do I get screenshots from System 7.5.5 into a usable format? |

I have a Mac LC running OS 7.5.5 (It's also a web server at lc.daveki.ng), and I want to be able to get screenshots off of it.
The problem I'm facing is that nothing I have on any other computer seems to be able to open the screenshot file.
I can open it natively on the Mac in Simpletext, and I was trying to open it in Clarisworks Paint to try to save as a different format, but it gets mad because there's not enough RAM in the Mac to do that.
Even Photoshop chokes on the image file. Any advice on how to do this? |

The Linux program ImageMagick (convert) can process PICTs. |

Surprising that you are unable to open it in other applications on the mac. I've never had any problem with that over the years. Are you running at an unusually high resolution and bit depth in combination with very little RAM? Perhaps you could try enabling virtual memory (or, preferably, installing RAM Doubler).
Anyway, I just tried opening a screenshot on my M1 MacBook Air with MacOS Ventura and, somewhat surprisingly (Apple being Apple…), it opens just fine in Preview. Make sure to add the right file extension (screenshots are in PICT format, so .pct) if you're moving them outside of classic Mac OS. |

i've had simpletext/clarisworks run out of memory when trying to open screenshots years ago. I had too many things running! Really wonder if that HTTP server was running at the same time they were trying to open the screenshots.
Moreover, sys7.5.5 on an LC? If it has 8 or less MB of RAM, that might not be particularly roomy as far as RAM goes... |

As a result, it's really only practical for System 6 or a slimmed down 7.0 or 7.1; 7.5.x is a bit too RAM hungry.
