Powerbook 145 & brittle ABS
Posted by: Godzil on 2016-08-03 06:37:01
Hello there,

When I got my 145 as usual the first thing I do with a new second-hand computer was to open to check it's internal state.

Bad move on that computer as the ABS become brittle and nearly all the screw stand are now broken, and I can't close correctly the whole thing.

Google didn't give me any clear solution for that sort of problem and I wonder if anyone here had a solution for that, as I do like this computer, but from the need to recap it and the broken shell it's a bit of a pain right now 🙁

(at least apart from that it's works quite well, only the contrast is a bit low (capacitors need to be changed)

The pinned link on the 68K Powerbook (this forum) is a terrific guide.

I have used the hints on this to repair numerous 68K laptops.  If you get more in the future, always open them carefully - that is the same lesson that I learned sometime back.

I was careful when I opened it (and always been) but I wasn't aware or the ABS problem theses particular model have, I've learned it the hard way.. 😀

Thanks for the link, I will look at that thread
