Case good, yellowed etc. The cards are nice, and sooner or later someone will make a IIfx reloaded. Then all the custom parts can be moved over.
Note you'd be surprised what is fixable though. Might be worth cleaning the battery goop off (wash it off by soaking in vinegar perhaps, avoid scrubbing as much as possible and use a soft bristled brush if you do) to see how bad it really is. I've got a couple of boards that were pretty bad going. And others just weren't as bad as they first looked.
Know anyone with an ultrasonic cleaner? |
Posted by: Bolle on 2024-01-06 11:50:35 Poop… that one did a great job taking out absolutely everything that could have been useful.
I’d still clean it up and store it so it can serve as a parts donor at some point in the future. |

Phipli pretending he doesn’t know Well, it wasn't in the list I read 5 minutes before. 😛 |
Posted by: imactheknife on 2024-01-06 12:14:26 Well, will soak it.. check out my thread for the mac plus that came with this iifx🙂 |
Posted by: Forrest on 2024-01-06 13:45:29 The CPU and FPU look OK. |

The CPU and FPU look OK. I pulled them out for now. Will see what board looks like after. |

Well, it wasn't in the list I read 5 minutes before. It's not list-worthy yet, but getting closer...

Spent the last two days placing 200 decoupling caps across the board. Parts placement complete, only some minor routing and cleanup to be done before I'll have to start checking everything once more.
I don't trust the Bomarc schematics too much but they're all we got to work with. |

I'm guessing somewhere there are broken traces from the battery goo that seep through the vias onto the interior layers. It would be great to do a rebuild the board. It looks impressive. |

Remember that there is a lot of work building a body snatcher board, a lot of times it is easier to diagnose the original board if there are only a few bad traces. A new board isn't an easy way out! It's a big undertaking. |

A new board isn't an easy way out! It's a big undertaking. Yeah, especially not with those Nubus connectors. Sheesh. Can you get those things new? I might look into it if there's ever a IIci reloaded, because I don't think the Nubus slots on mine work. That, or the network card I have is dead. |
Posted by: aeberbach on 2024-01-08 19:39:30 You can buy NuBus connectors - DIN 41612 is what they go by on electronics distributors like Digikey and they are usually in stock, still in use in many systems. |

Something I have been working on recently: It's a near 1:1 reproduction with some minor rerouting where this made sense. Boards are on order, should be here in a couple of weeks Not much more to say (other than thanks to @Kai Robinson for providing the donor board I used) you have all seen...

It's a big undertaking. Oh I can appreciate how difficult it can be to make a board. I was lucky enough to find working replacement iifx boards. Kind of sad I wasn't able to get them to boot properly. Which is why I hope a new board can be made like the SE/30 reboots. It is remarkable with the efforts being made. I'm impressed. |
Posted by: imactheknife on 2024-01-09 19:15:29 So, i will recap psu in this iifx. Is there another system to test on, or just Macintosh ii systems i would imagine?? |
