Questions about a Newertech 7MX71/81
Posted by: BetaC on 2023-12-27 16:22:04
Today I managed to find myself a free floating G3 card, albeit one without the cables to allow for a proper HPV card to be used along side it.

I am thinking bout tossing it in to my 7100, but I was trying to figure out a few things before I did so. Is the bodge wiring visible in the top left of the card normal? And, more importantly, will I encounter any issues if I use this card without an attached HPV card? I am already aware that some programs like Marathon probably won't like being on anything but an integrated graphics card, but if push comes to shove I can totally use my Thunder IV NuBus card.

Remember the 7100 has another video output in the form of the HDI-45 port. Marathon shouldn't care what card you use? Some cards are faster than others, but with the G3 it will be plenty fast.

The bodge is most likely factory as ugly as it is.

Not having a HPV installed is fine as long as something (the G3) is plugged into the PDS. I have a similar card in an 8100.

Thanks, The marathon problem might have just been having a PDS graphics card and a Nubus Graphics card going at the same time now that I think about it. I also don't have an HD-45 adapter, leaving me with just my aforementioned cards.

Worth seeing if you can find one cheap. Since the port is there. It lets you dual screen and is always there for emergencies. Think of getting an adapter like getting a cheap video card that doesn't take up a slot.

I'll eventually do just that most likely. It'll certainly help at the recycler I volunteer at every once in a while.

We're all envious 🤣

I've been mostly just trying to adjust what I buy for what is cheap. Last year was PCI video cards, but they're going expensive now 🙁

Perhaps 2024 is the year of G4s 🙂

Yeah, I really can't complain about the hardware I've managed to find through the place.

Must be great for upgrade cards and RAM!

I can't complain, I keep being lucky. My Newer Tech upgrade was sent free by an eBay seller when I bought something else. It needed minor repairs but works well. Its cache is fast so it actually punches above its weight compared to similar speed Sonnet cards.

New problem after everything has been installed: I can't figure out why my monitor refuses to not be green at all times. I'm using one of those 10 dip adapters.

What OS? If 7.1.2, book in 7.5 or newer.

Currently 7.5, but the problem is also in 8.6.

Nevermind, the entire problem is the picky as all hell CRT that I have. Who would have known that a non-interesting dell crt would be so picky, while a generic HP LCD wouldn't be.

Did you have the adapter set to an Apple monitor setting? Set it to VGA and the issue you had should happen on the CRT.

What is probably happening is the computer is outputting Sync on Green and the monitor isn't filtering out the sync from the video signal.

All settings lead to it being green, and it is such a cheap CRT that it doesn’t have any form of on screen adjustment nor doesn’t it do 1024x768 at more than 60hz
