IIsi PSU question
Posted by: JC8080 on 2023-12-01 17:07:22
I have a recapped PSU in my IIsi and it has been working fine since the recap - it's been a few months, but probably only 10 hours of run time. The machine has a NuBus adapter and 8*24 video card. Yesterday while I was using it the machine restarted and then went into a restart loop where it would chime, and about 2 seconds later reset and chime again, and so on. I removed the NuBus adapter and video card and it seemed fine, I thought the video card may have failed, but then after a few minutes of running without the video card the restart loop started again. I replaced the PSU with another recapped unit and everything seems to be working fine. I assume the additional load from the adapter and video card was causing the failure to happen sooner.

I am going to open the bad PSU and take a look around in the next few days, but before I do that I wanted to see if these symptoms sound like any particular failure state people have experienced with the IIsi PSUs. When I did the recap I recapped the daughter board, and I am 99% sure I replaced the two large 220uf caps. I'm guessing there may be a questionable trace I missed that is finally failing, I just thought I would see if anyone has thoughts before I dive in.

Make sure it isn't just the power supply switch. If it isn't fully extended or fully pressed in, the machine can do funky things.

Thanks, I'll check that before I open it up.
