| Rebuilding the Apple Network Server 700 Power supply |

Hello.
For those with an Apple Network Server 700 series, I thought I would post photos of the power supply and a P/N listing if you need to rebuild your power supply. There are quite a few caps. It should be noted the the ANS 500 power supply is truly a different power supply. I had assumed that Apple would have used the same power supply, but hard wired the 500 and removed the handle, but no. Apple had a different supplier make a different supply. (Why?). In this post, there are photos of the supply for the 700 (the hot swapable design). The capacitor list is only for this unit. In the next post, I'll also post internal photos of the 500 supply, but I haven't recapped that supply at this time. The 700 supply also requires non-common rivets. They're McMaster-Carr P/N 97447A167.

Here is the Apple Network Server 500 power supply. I'll post a part number list when I get around to re-capping it. I don't really have a need for a 500 power supply. (If someone does need it, let me know). |

Great job on the 700 Power Supply. Techknight worked on my ANS 700 power supply. It had a bunch of failed components. He has a ANS 500 PS of mine he's working on and hopefully he can get it working. I recapped it but it's dead as a doornail. |

Oh and if you haven’t recapped your 700 power supply yet just be careful on some of the througholes. I had issues with a few hole vias coming out. I do recommend a desoldering gun (which now I have). And practice with it if possible before on something else. It’s good to spot the leg area with fresh solder just before sucking up the solder with the gun. Just some hints from lessons learned…
And yes they are both different. The 700 is I believe 400/450 watt and the 500 is 300/350 watt. It also has to have some logic I suppose to be redundantly powered at the same time. |
