Power Macintosh G3 All In One (Molar Mac) Power Supply, Analog Board, And Deflection Board Recap List
Hey everyone thought I'd make this list and share it with everyone. I know there has been a post about the logic board recap guide HERE , Thank you to @shadedream for that! And before you ask yes, the Beige PowerMacintosh G3 and the PowerMacintosh G3 All In One share the same logic board. However, this guide is for the power supply, analog board, and deflection board for these machines. A lot of people may be surprised by it but everything up top in the Molar Mac was pulled straight from an LG monitor including the power supply, CRT, analog board, and of course accompanying deflection board. I've run into the issue of my Mac chirping and restarting constantly with the power supply clicking (could be VRM too). As such I've had enough of the guess work with this machine and decided it's time to bite the bullet and get all 4 of mine recapped. I've provided a chart below and I hope it's of any help to someone.

Side note if anyone is looking for a G3 AIO and is scared to have one shipped I can happily disassemble one of my four and ship a full unit separate from plastics, just PM me.

Hey, I have a AIO that no longer boots. Logic board is good, so I suspect either the analog board or the flyback. You're in NC?

What is it doing, any sounds or is it a black screen, no chime, fan spins, no led situation? And yes I'm in NC.

Yeah, no chime, no lights, nothing. Now that I say it out loud, it feels like a power supply issue. I had fully disassembled it for a thorough cleaning (it was a barn find and was filthy inside). I had checked all the connections multiple times, and it all seems to be connected properly. Is there an easy way to check the power supply without having everything connected (need the ADB soft power to boot up)?

Needs ADB soft power (keyboard power on) to boot up, similar to a Color Classic. Also if it doesn’t chime, the led is on, the screen is black, and the fan is running add RAM. If you need RAM it’s the RAM G4 and G3 Mac’s take do not force a random 168 pin simm in.

Unfortunately, I don't get fan or LED. The logic board seems fine - I threw it in my G3 desktop and it booted fine. I may be traveling to PA next week and there is a guy selling a bunch of them and I may pick one up while I'm there. and see if I can make one good machine.

Oh yeah I’ve got 10 more I’m getting from him. Be warned every single one I’ve gotten needs work and some have had battery damage so make sure you pull those boards out.

Nice. Yeah I'm hoping I can find one (or two) with a good analog board / PSU since I have two known good logic boards. IF the damage has been limited to that, I should be able to get a working one.

I just picked up my third from him (guy in PA) today. I live 1.5 hr. north of him. Got 2 home and found roached out logic boards = / Thankful to have gotten a clean logic board from him today though no idea if it's good or not. Is that tidbit about the tower logic board true? It would be a great relief if so (also thinking that it would facilitate faster processors). I have to say you all are doing yeomans' work posting these cap lists. MUCHO appreciated! I also feel like there should be a master cap list somewhere, right? Like not that I think one exists and we didn't know about it, but maybe conspire to make one? These AIOs have my attention right now, but also have 3x 1400s and a Duo 2300 that I want to recap (they are all working at the moment, so these AIOs win triage - I'm hoping for one good machine).1000003630.jpg1000003398.jpg

The beige AIO, Desktop and Tower have identical logic boards. Only thing to watch is the Tower has the PS2 jumper set differently. The jumper basically just inverts the soft power logic. You'll need to make sure the jumper matches the board you're replacing.

Side thing if that is regarding the discussion of powering on without a keyboard? Just change the jumper and it inverts the logic, so will power on as soon as power is applied. Might be handy for minimal testing.

You can use ATX power supplies with these fairly easily. Fan position and performance is important though as in the desktops and towers it cools the whole case. I assume it is the same in the AIO. They didn't sell them here.

When you go back will you please look for a clean Wings card for me? I got one, but it's in the worst machine and may have been compromised by the battery. I would be very appreciative and would def. reimburse you.

Just a note I got 2 machines from him and not ended up working. Neither booted initially, but it's because they will not boot without RAM. Cleaned them when I got home and added RAM and both booted, with a good amount of crackling sounds from the analog board / flyback. I gave them both a good cleaning, re-seated all the connections and both have been stable since. One case was in pretty bad shape so I gave it the MacTV treatment and went black. I also had a G4 Yikes machine and was able to take the G4 CPU card (pin compatible with the G# AIO, tower, and desktop) and put it in the black AIO. Used jumper settings to run the G4 at 400MHz. Been stable so far, but if I plan to run it longer / play games, I plan to add an additional fan over the G4 CPU card. (https://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=zif/beigejumpers.html)

Had to update the PDF, a few values were messed up on three caps please see proper one attached below.

Out of interest, how did you find that information? I’ve been diagnosing an issue with an AIO and I’ve replaced the caps and fly back but same issue, so I’m wondering if I can find one of these LG displays to salvage components from.
