Unexpected mid2010 iMac find

Starting to feel like I’m on a hot streak lately… seems like when it rains, it pours.

Found this at Goodwill today, a place that never has computers for me to find. It’s a mid 2010 iMac, with included wireless keyboard (not pictured). Started up to the question mark folder in store, and the case was in great shape, so figured it was worth a shot.

Turns out the internal HDD is buggered (SMART status = failing), but it had no trouble booting from a USB stick of El Cap. Though of course, in the process of trying to at least get an external bootable drive set up, my old external LaCie FW800 drive (which I already had suspicions about) ended up crapping itself in the process, so… gotta add that to the project list.

Gonna give it another go with the iMac tomorrow, once I find a newer and less suspicious external drive.

No biggie on the LaCie...pop a new HD inside and you're good to go!

A dead HD is probably why it didn't end up on Goodwill Ebay.
