Installed another, the same problem, a third one the same and so on with the fourth etc. betwen these other hdd, I could install the 7.5, booted ok, but stopped detecting it the next day.
The battery is new, there's no broken parts, or bad caps, etc.
It boots from floppy disk normally, I just dont know what else to do. | Posted by: Nixontheknight on 2023-10-30 14:04:57

SCSI needs one set of terminating resistors if there is only one thing on the bus, but needs 2 for two or more devices | Posted by: bibilit on 2023-10-30 14:05:48 Probably a broken trace in the logic board.
Caps have been changed already, can also be cap goo somewhere | Posted by: dvdmcwilliams on 2023-10-30 14:27:09 This is the drive it came with, idk what jumper settings should I use.

View attachment 64564 you should be able to look up the manual for the drive online if you look for the model number of the drive followed by the word manual | Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2023-11-01 11:34:46 Were all the replacement drives Quantums, and can you test them in a known-good system?
Those Quantum drives are well known for dropping dead after a day, nowadays. They have an internal rubber bumper in the head assembly that goes sticky and causes the heads to get stuck, killing the drive.
If you haven't tested those new drives in another system, it would sure sound to me that you just got unlucky and had 4 drives go bad in quick succession. Typically, if a drive works, you don't change anything, then it dies, I'd suspect the drive there and not bad termination. | Posted by: dvdmcwilliams on 2023-11-04 11:27:19 Thanks guys for your replies, I got another hdd, an ibm one, which I can see through an adaptect 2906 in my b/w g3, the problems come when i connect it to the classic color or even an LCII, these machines wont see it, not even the other ones i have. Idk whats wrong. | | 1 |
