The built-in memory test has detected a problem with cache memory. 2400c
Posted by: young24601 on 2023-10-19 12:54:54 Hi everyone, I just purchased a 2400c with 112MB of ram and this message pops up about 1/4 of the way through the startup process every time. It has a MAXpowr G3 with cache settings at: 120mhz (240 / 2.0). The machine does start up and opens apps. I can't tell if it is slow or fast because I have no vintage machine to compare with. A quick google search seems to indicate a major problem with the memory module or the processor itself (or in this case the G3 addon)? With extensions off, Apple system profiler reports 16 + 96 Ram, 256k external L2 cache, 0k backside l2 cache. Processor is reported as a G3 240Mhz. With extensions on, Apple system profiler reports 16 + 96 Ram, 256k external L2 cache, 512k backside cache. G3 240mhz. Disabling extensions doesn't seem to turn off the G3 card. Before I try opening it up and reseating the memory card, I was wondering if any of you had any obvious tips a beginner is missing. It does seem to have the PRAM battery inside because the time and date were correct (so I know I'll have to do that too). I don't seem to have much luck buying a vintage mac, I can't imagine this error did not pop up before it was sold to me. Thank you for any tips or suggestions. Quick Edit. I reached out to the seller and he said that: "That’s a false alarm. The system detects the cache and it detects the whole RAM. It’s like that due to the G3 processor upgrade." Can others who have this upgrade concur?
