Questions about Ample
Posted by: for2ando on 2023-10-19 10:23:49
(1) I'm trying to use Ample, but many menus such as File>New, File>Open, and File>Save are grayed out and cannot be executed. How can I do this?
(2) When I launch mame from Ample, the log shows "WARNING: Secure coding is not enabled for restorable state! Enable secure coding by implementing SApplicationDelegate.applicationSupportsSecureRestorableState: and returning YES." How do I enable Secure coding?
(3) How can I configure mame's initial settings as shown on this page: http://forum.attractmode.org/index.php?topic=326.0 for mame bundled with Ample?

Have you got the wrong forum altogether?

Thank you for your advice. Which forum is better? Software board?

Software board is better for this stuff. Possibly include "Emulation: " in the title like the recent Infinite Mac thread.

But as long as I'm polluting here:

1) What are you trying to do with those menu items? You should insert disks and all that from Ample's main panel before starting the emulation.
2) That error is just Apple being Apple. As long as the emulation runs you're fine.
3) You don't need to do any of that because you aren't using Attract Mode, you're using Ample.

Thank you for your reply.

I thought I could use those menus to save and load the settings I made in Ample's main window, but they're grayed out and I can't.

What does "disks and all that" refer to? I don't understand why disks are needed to save and restore Ample settings.

Oh, gotcha. I don't believe you can save settings in Ample as such, you can only export a script that will launch MAME with that configuration. Might be worth opening an issue on their Github to see if its planned, because it seems like an obvious feature.

Seriously? If Ample doesn't have a function to save settings, why are the items Save As, Save, Open, and New written out and grayed out in the File menu, for example? If you're right, those menu items are simply reserved for future expansion, but is that really the case?

Those menu items were likely leftover from a program template that the author used. I wouldn't read much into it.

HOWEVER check out the "Bookmark" menu. I believe that will let you save presets and call them up later.
