| A thread for Apple II clones |
Posted by: Quadraman on 2023-10-11 05:08:06 So, a lot of us here are old enough to remember when the market was flooded with Apple II clones. Most of these machines entered the country as CP/M compatibles, to get through customs, and had cloned Apple ROMS fitted once they were in the country. A lot of them had fruit themed names. So in tribute to these machines, this thread is created for you to show off your Apple II clones. Let's see how many different ones we can document here.
My only one, so far, is a Franklin Ace 1200. I also have a Franklin monitor, but it's the one that matches the design of the 2200. What do the rest of you have? |
Posted by: bibilit on 2023-10-12 11:38:42 Hi, this is mine, not any brand, probably a Taïwanese clone.
Boot clearly as an Apple II. |
Posted by: Skate323k137 on 2023-10-12 12:38:07 Mine isn't an illegal clone, since vTech licensed BASIC from Microsoft, but I am quite fond of my Laser 128.

Still have no idea what that represents. |

Still have no idea what that represents. Neat. People had put all sorts of 5 character combinations there just to displace "APPLE" (You probably already knew that). |
Posted by: LaPorta on 2023-10-12 12:57:36 Yes, I just wish I knew what company or otherwise it stood for. |
Posted by: TempestGod on 2024-01-05 21:33:50 Just found this website today. Thought people in this thread would appreciate this unpopulated main board for a Pete Perkins Apple II clone. At least, that is what I think its from. |

Hi, this is mine, not any brand, probably a Taïwanese clone.
Boot clearly as an Apple II. I just recently aquired a case that is exactly the same as that, but all the hardware in it is original Apple 2 (both power supply and the pcb). I wonder what the back story is on that case. I've seen a number of clones, but none with the extended keyboard like that. Since mine seems to have stock roms/decoder i'm guessing it just maps the right numeric pad keys to the number keys on the qwerty side. It's on the 'list' of round2it things I want to verify. You know how it is... As the great philosophy C+C once said, "Things that make you go hmmm...." |
Posted by: oldappleguy on 2024-01-22 12:12:15 I also have a Franklin Ace 1200. I bought it new. Add a eprom burner to slot. Also changed the F8 rom to make it ProDOS compatible.
I am not sure if a still have the speed demon card. |
Posted by: GRudolf94 on 2024-01-23 06:41:16 I've got this really odd clone PCB from Brazil - calls itself the Spectrum Micro Engenho II. Has a Disk II onboard, and the machine was (as can be seen on this pic I got off the internet) an IBM-lookalike with a detachable keyboard. Unfortunately all I have is the board. |
Posted by: bibilit on 2024-01-23 22:46:10 Pretty cool !! Never heard about this one before |
Posted by: Callan on 2024-01-24 07:05:13 Yeah... I love the fusion of Apple 2 and an IBM case style. It was definetly the wild west of computing back then. |
Posted by: bibilit on 2024-01-25 11:55:36 Also have a clone drive interface card for my clone Apple II |
Posted by: Arbee on 2024-01-25 12:05:25 Wow! I assume the PROMs were remarked with the Apple part numbers and copyright, but visually they did an above-average job cloning it. |
Posted by: bibilit on 2024-01-27 02:39:38 The only item that was way below-average in my clone is the PSU.
Removed and replaced by an original item. |
