PB180 - Loose insert, stuck screw.

The left-most insert connecting the screen and bezel assembly to the hinge has come loose from its roots, with its screw stuck firmly inside. With the Powerbook being designed the way it is, I can't disassemble it for other repairs until I take out that screw. I've tried grabbing the insert from the other side with long-nosed pliers, and then trying to turn the screw, but I just can't get enough grip and it's not moving. Do I have any other options, or is it a goner?

I had the same problem with my 170 but was able to get it to grip something and come out. If that didn’t work, my plan was to just operate the hinge until the rest of the standoffs broke, in which case the housing would come apart enough that you could grab the brass insert and remove the screw. This could risk additional plastic damage to other parts, but what option do you really have if any? Not sure.

Apply CA glue to tip of pliers before attempting to hold insert, if the gap safely allows for that.

I had a similar situation last week with a PB170. There's really no easy way to do it other than to gently pull the screen bezel at the same time you try to undo the screw. That will place some pressure on screw and enable to turn it a bit. It will take a little time and patience. The plastic holding the standoff will break off anyway, so it's not a horrible situation. It is repairable. Thingaverse had 3D files of the standoffs and the hinge supports. They can be found on eBay as well if you don't have a 3D printer.
