| Installing 7.5.5 from Floppy Emu |
Posted by: tekkned on 2023-09-13 14:39:54 I have a base 7.5.5. install on my SE/30. I think it's from archive.org with a lot of utils/games etc. on it. I think it's a stripped down version. So I'm trying to do a 7.5.5 install run with 3 IMGs files via my Floppy Emu device. 'Mounting' the disks works and firing up the install process also works. The process gets going after I start the installer on disk1. I agree with the disclaimer and press INSTALL.
There is some disk activity on the Floppy Emu device. Next stop: "Preparing to install" - Next: "Determining which files... " - I'm getting a nice overview of the 3 disks and it's doing it thing. UNTILL: it asks me to insert the disk 2 and at the same time disk 1.
I 'insert' disk 1 and get the same popups again. If I 'insert' disk 2 nothing happens. I even relabeled the disks but that did not work. What could be happening here? Thanks! |
Posted by: bigmessowires on 2023-09-13 20:07:23 May be unrelated, but there were some Floppy Emu firmware fixes last December for 1.44 MB Macintosh disk emulation: https://www.bigmessowires.com/2022/12/21/new-macintosh-firmware-updates-for-floppy-emu/ |

Posted by: tekkned on 2023-09-14 00:14:02 I did the update. Same result. The install process of 7.5.5. halts - it asks for "Update - 2" and at the same time there is a popup asking for "Update - 1". I can insert the disks but nothing works. The only thing that's curious is that the popup showing 'Please insert the disk: System 7.5.5 Update - 1" is disappearing for one second if I actually insert the virtual disk 1. But it quickly appears again with the "Please insert the disk : Sytem 7.5.5 Update - 2" always being there. It quickly ejects all the disks. Inserting Disk2 or Disk3 will not result in the disappearance (1 sec) of the "Update - 1" popup. So there is some kind of check going on but not being very effective.
I tried several System 7.5.5 disks spread around the internet. All with the same result. |

I tried several System 7.5.5 disks spread around the internet. All with the same result. It sort of sounds like the disks aren't named correctly. I know you've talked about that already... but it sounds like that. |
Posted by: tekkned on 2023-09-14 01:47:30 Thanks for looking into it. If anyone has the correct naming convention of the disks I can check mine. |
