| Macintosh Plus external drive questions |
Posted by: CharlieFrown on 2016-07-11 00:30:26 Hi, I am new to pre-SE Macs. If I buy one of these 5.25" sized Syquest SCSI cases will I be able to boot Plus with external SCSI hard drive or SCSI2SD solution?
I have a spare Centronics to SCSI cable and terminators, this case I spotted in ads is powered by regular PC plug and comes with Yamaha CD-ROM (I am sure it will need non Apple driver).

Posted by: bibilit on 2016-07-11 04:21:53 probably any enclosure will be fine, as far as you have termination, SCSI connectors and Power supply, but recently i have had some troubles with one:

So is just a matter of chance (or lack of it)
Is more a problem of what kind of Hard drive you are going to get in and how you are going to format the drive...
Your Plus will probably boot with a good system, no matter the hardware you are choosing.

Posted by: BadGoldEagle on 2016-07-11 04:38:16 I'm using my HD40SC's enclosure for my SCSI2SD. It works great. You just have to put some piece of paper under the SCSI2SD, otherwise it will short a couple of traces...
Lido is a good software to format a SCSI2SD. If you haven't got a copy of it around, here's a link where you can download it.
You just need a good cable and a terminator, as the SCSI2SD is not terminated (if used externally).

Posted by: ktkm on 2016-08-21 02:09:08 I trying something similar with a HD20SC. What scsi2sd-util set-up do you use? The reson I ask is I’m having some trouble making a bootable partition.

Posted by: BadGoldEagle on 2016-08-21 02:34:56 I kinda forgot... I left everything as standard IIRC. I only specified one partition.
But if you have problems making a bootable partition, there are software that can help you with that. I used one that could bless any system folder but I forgot which one it was.
Lido is a great format utility. I think it blesses the volume when it initialises it. You should try it.
OR you should move the system folder out of that partition, and put it back. This usually blesses the partition.
Will report back if I find that app I was talking about.
Edit: System Picker will bless any system folder. It is used to switch systems (between 6 and 7) on the same partition.
