G3 BMT dumpster rescue
Posted by: ppcoutlaw on 2023-09-01 04:25:02
Well, it looks like it is my turn to share my most recent acquisition!
Tonight at midnight, after getting off from work, I took a friend to the bank atm and then returned them to their apartment complex. On my way out of the complex I saw what looked like a light colored box sitting in the dark by the dumpster.
A box with a notch in the top….
So I stopped double quick and scored a Beige Mini Tower, mac ally mouse, power computing keyboard and an nec flatscreen.
According to the tag it is a G3 266mhz with 512kb cache,128mb ram, 10-100 enet, 8mb 2d-3d, 6mb vr.
Looking inside, it has all that and an apple 4gb scsi hdd with a 2 go seagate scsi hdd as well. It is a rev b board.
I lucked out as it has been raining off and on. Only the keyboard and mouse were soaked. Not so sure on the monitor, but hey, Not going to complain!

Nice! I'm surprised these finds are still happening... someone in another thread just found a Portable in case on the side of the road... maybe we're entering a new phase!?

maybe we're entering a new phase!?
I just found a Lisa, a TAM, a sealed boxed Quadra 950 and a prototype PowerBook G5 just thrown out on the street.

Then I woke up.

I'm the eternal optimist... destined to be disappointed.

Most of the Macs I own, were found out on garbage day.

Hooray! It is alive! All specs are the same as I listed, with the exception of 64 more mega of ram. It is running 8.5.
It is a snapshot in time. It was made in Singapore, sold and used there, and brought to Tacoma, Wa. Replacing the battery brought me the happy mac sound and booted right up into the year 2002.
So far I have discovered nothing dated after that year.
There are some fax and internet applications, and some games.
A Freddy the Fish cd is in the cd drive. The monitor works as well, but has some liquid damage in two spots, so it will probably be turned into a bench monitor.
It was a fortunate save. The next day the dumpsters were emptied
