| 512k Mac Front Badge Stuck |
Posted by: RedJacketPress on 2023-08-26 16:09:05 Are the badges held in with some kind of adhesive, or mostly just friction fit? I’d like to swap the somewhat-worn one on the front of my 512k Mac for the one on the back while it’s disassembled (much easier for me to replace at a later date), but I haven’t been able to get it free, and I don’t want to damage it.
Anyone have helpful hints? |

Don't use a pin as it might pierce/push a dent through the thin badge - a nail with the point sanded off might be more suitable. |
Posted by: RedJacketPress on 2023-08-26 18:22:13 I have a good tool for the task -- I was loathe to push too hard on it when it wasn't moving. Heating it up makes sense -- I have a heat gun I can use, or I might try hot water when I'm doing the post-Retrobrite rinse.
Thanks! |

Posted by: RedJacketPress on 2023-08-26 18:42:07 The paint is partly worn on the sides of the Apple. It doesn't look all that bad, really, but I can replace it inexpensively -- and as I said, with everything disassembled I'd rather swap it now, because it's much easier to get at the one on the rear case. |
