| Power Macintosh 9600 with G3/300 upgrade can't install 9.2.2 with OS 9 Helper |
Posted by: CD5150 on 2023-08-17 19:19:42 I currently have Mac OS 9.1 installed on my G3 upgraded Power Macintosh 9600 (Tsunami Board) and am trying to update to 9.2.2 with OS9Helper. However, whenever I try installing the 9.2.1 patch it fails all the time. I extracted the Mac OS 9.2.1 update sit file with Stuffit Expander. Was I supposed to do that? What should I do? |
Posted by: CD5150 on 2023-08-17 20:56:01 For context, OS9Helper says the 9.2.1 Update file is invalid. |
Posted by: Byrd on 2023-08-17 21:34:21 Download it again and maybe try extracting the file on another disk |

Download it again and maybe try extracting the file on another disk I've redownloaded 9.2.1, OS9Helper and I tried again, but I got the same result. |
Posted by: volvo242gt on 2023-08-17 22:18:27 Hmmm, if you have downloaded the archive.org zip archive of the download.info.apple.com FTP server, you might try the 9.2.1 Update file on that. I seem to remember using it when I upgraded my old 7500/100 to 9.2.2 using OS9Helper. Worked fine. In fact, the 9.2.2 install on my current G4 Digital Audio happens to be originally from that computer. Just transferred to various hard drives from the original Quantum Fireball TM 3GB SCSI drive I used in said 7500. Currently on a 120GB IDE drive. |
Posted by: CD5150 on 2023-08-17 22:40:13 I didn't go through archive.org. I used Macintosh Garden and Macintosh Repository with no luck. |
Posted by: volvo242gt on 2023-08-17 22:51:05 Here's a 9.2.1 CD .iso file:
Mac OS 9.2.1 Update
archive.org
And, this site seems to have the update files for 9.1-9.2.2...
Software download library for vintage Mac software.

Posted by: CD5150 on 2023-08-17 23:34:31 Well sadly, this error popped up. |
Posted by: CD5150 on 2023-08-18 03:43:46 Welp, I'm stupid lol. I had to install the OldWorld FireWire Patch first due to my system having a USB/FW400 combo card installed. Then 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 were installed successfully. |
Posted by: aplmak on 2023-08-18 04:27:05 I was going to say because my G3 300mhz works fine with 9.2.2 in my 8600.. and yes had to do the helper and the OldWorld patch too. |

That is the reason why my 7500 had to be upgraded to 9.2.2 long ago. Micro$oft decided that 9.2.2 was the only version they'd allow to run MSN Messenger, unless you decided to run the OS X version. |
