| Posted by: Snial on 2023-08-06 09:28:42 My PowerBook 1400's PRAM is dead and I should replace it, but in the meantime I have to keep typing in the date, except that even with Mac OS 8.1, I can't set a date after 2019. I came across bbraun's SetDate utility (which comes with source code & CW project), but it doesn't work with Mac OS 8.1 (system freeze). It's fairly short, what would it take to make it >= Mac OS 8 compatible? OK, a bit more reading and I found out it should work for Mac OS 8, based on this comment: "Although the author only says it works on System 6 and System 7, in fact it also works on MacOS 8.6 (and presumably 8.1) as well." Actually, I stupidly tried to run it directly; where it crashed, then rebooted, moved it to the proper control panels, rebooted, but it still crashed the Mac. Beware that early versions of the classic Mac OS won’t let you set a time after the end of 2019. Happily, a free utility lets you work around this limitation for another 20 years.
