| Apple Laserwriter IIg board level repairs |
Posted by: joeventura on 2023-07-27 08:59:54 I am in the unique position of having not 1, but 3 dead Laserwriter IIg controller boards.
Anyone do board level repairs?
If you can resurrect just one, you can keep the other two.
Why do these die so much? |
Posted by: danda on 2023-07-28 08:19:38 What's the symptoms of them when you try and power them up in a LaserWriter II? If it's where the status lights show either green and paper out, or green , paper jam, paper out, then this is likely a capacitor on the IIg board issue.
Like the Mac Classic, these have electrolytic capacitors that leak and go bad. I had three boards (a f and two gs) with this problem, and replacing the caps on them worked a treat. |
Posted by: joeventura on 2023-07-28 08:22:07 yes at least one of them has that exact symptom so caps are ordered and on the way! |

Posted by: absurd_engineering on 2023-08-10 14:44:31 I can probably resurrect one or two, if you don't have success yourself. |

I can probably resurrect one or two, if you don't have success yourself. Sadly tacking in the new caps did not work.
If you'd be so kind to send me your address in a private message I would love to take you up on your very generous offer.
Happy to pay for your talent!! |
Posted by: joeventura on 2024-02-03 15:28:01 replacing all the SMT caps has resurrected them.
Now I have 3 working Laserwriter IIg boards |
Posted by: croissantking on 2024-02-04 14:14:37 Well done!
I have my eye on a LaserWriter IINT that’s up for sale locally. If I get it, I’ll be on the lookout for a IIg board.
Do you have any plans to sell your spare ones? |

Do you have any plans to sell your spare ones? Yes I have to sell the spares to recover all the flipping cash I paid for them and the repairs LOL |
Posted by: croissantking on 2024-02-04 15:19:05 Let me know if you have a price in mind, and if you’d be willing to ship to UK. |
Posted by: danda on 2024-02-06 09:55:58 @croissantking - I may have a spare IIg board. I know I have three IINT boards, but I seem to remember having a IIg spare (that I recapped). I can have a look to see if I still have it if you want? |

Sure, why not. I've been talking myself out of the printer purchase lately, but no harm seeing what you've got 😉 |
Posted by: joeventura on 2024-02-25 19:25:24 In about a week I will have a spare Laserwriter IIg printer ready for sale.
I have refurbed the entire thing, works great, the only thing you'll need is a toner cart (not shipping those they just make a mess)
If you are in the continental US reach out. |
