LCD Sync Power Mac 7300 and 8600
Posted by: cobalt60 on 2023-07-23 20:16:58
I finally got everything I need (I hope) to power on and use my Power Mac 7300 and 8600. I just got a Dell E151FPb LCD 15" 1024x768 monitor that I am hoping to use with the on-board video of each. I have a Mac to PC VGA adapter that I am also hoping will work. It has dip switches for the various resolutions and sync modes. What I do not know is, what sync modes should I be trying? The options are:

Composite Sync (2 different options)
Sync on V
Sync on H
Separate sync
Sync on green

Any recommendations on which to try first?. Or even which to try last (not sure if I am risking damaging anything here).

Try using the switches for separate sync mode first. Most modern-ish LCD monitors use that mode.

The 7300 and 8600 are late enough that they usually don't need the sync changing. Try just leaving the sync switches all in their default off position and seeing if it "just works".

You'll still want to set the resolution to a setting that supports 1024x768 probably the "VGA" setting.

First thing I tried was separate sync, and it's working perfectly. Thanks!
