Mac SE/30 screen too bright with scan lines
Posted by: bibilit on 2016-07-03 06:48:05
I have a SE/30 at home with the above symptoms.

I have the starting Bong, but no pointer nor blinking disk, the screen is also stretched in the horizontal side.

I have replaced the capacitors on the LB, and the problem is not in the Analog Board, the same Logic board in my working SE produce the same screen.

So something is bad on the video side.

I have removed and replaced the ROM simm and Ram for a test, no change...

Bourn filter ??

Any idea is welcomed.

Odd. I didn't know the SE/30 Logic board could control the brightness??

You should check the video pin on the connector, maybe something's wrong on that LB connector?

Sounds like the CRT socket board.

No i tested the LB in my working SE and problem was the same.

Don't know if this can be related to UE8

Oops I misread your post. Doh!

Problem solved, related to a bad LS166 (UE8)

Continuity was ok, so i removed UE8 cleaned the area with acetone, used a wick to remove the old solder and put back the component... problem was still present  🙁

Removed again and replace with a spare.

Not bad for a first try at  Hot Air Station (practiced for an hour in old Logic boards first...)

Would have not tried another removal, pads are very thin and fragile in this area.

Nice! Which hot air station do you have? I've been eyeing one on eBay/Amazon, haven't pulled the trigger yet.
