I would like to back up my Macintosh Plus's external hard disk, which all of my stuff is on, including the system folder. I've heard that a SCSI Zip Drive may be good for that. If so, what kind of SCSI Zip Drive would I use, and how would I install it? Does any SCSI Zip Drive work, or must it be a specific type? Is it important to make sure that I buy a tested one, and are they prone to failure?
Would this be a good Zip Drive for this purpose?

None of them are good.
P2 means parralel and you are looking for SCSI.
A SCSI Zip will have two switches on the back, one for termination, the other for ID selection.

Those are both parallel port models and will not work with your Mac Plus. Note the 'P' in the model name of each and the printer diagram shown on one. A Z100S2 would be appropriate.

No, again this a Parallel unit (look at the last picture, as soon as you see that picture with a printer, you know it won't work) the ad is misleading.

I find zip drives all the time in the local thrift stores, usually $5-$10 and no shipping. You might give that a try. Also, get the zip100 rather than the newer zip250, as I don't think the driver for the 250 would work on the Mac Plus. Printer port drives are by far the most common, but I still come across scsi drives all the time.
Of course, this is Iomega's home town, so that might make a difference.

Only ZIP100 disks will work in a ZIP100 drive. A ZIP100 drive will automatically eject the incompatible high capacity disks if inserted. (250 and 750MB)

As long as both are 100's, PC-formatted zip disks can be reformatted as Mac and vice versa, so any zip 100 disks should work.
