| IIci / Quadra 700 power supply from PM 7100? |
Posted by: Tx76 on 2023-06-13 14:08:43 Hi there!
after the PSU of my Quadra 700 died, I replaced it with one from a IIci (which is obviously the same), but it died too (two capacitors exploded). I will try to recap it, but I also have a PSU from a Power Macintosh 7100 lying around. It fits into the IIci/Quadra physically, but has somewhat different specifications (see photos, the one with the higher voltages is from the 7100).
Will it work or will it fry the Quadra?
Thanks for any help! |

It fits and works. OK, thanks! Did you try it yourself? |

OK, thanks! Did you try it yourself? I can't even remember which PSU is the one out of the 7100 any more. Its in a IIci somewhere. |

Thanks again! I was worried about the different voltages shown on the label. But I don’t even know what they refer to… The voltages are the same on both? Do you mean the currents? They are the current rating. Basically the top photo is a higher power powersupply, thats the only practical difference. It can drive more stuff / its better. |

Thank you! |
Posted by: volvo242gt on 2023-06-13 23:10:10 Have the same C/Q650/7100 power supply in my IIci right now. Works fine. It's just a higher wattage/amperage version meant to power two SCSI devices instead of one. |
Posted by: joshc on 2023-06-14 00:18:06 Yeah these are interchangeable.
The PSU connector/pinout is shared between these models: IIcx, IIci, Quadra 700, IIvi, IIvx, Quadra 650, Centris 650, Performa 600 Power Macintosh 7100. The 650/7100 one is a bit higher rated as mentioned above. |

Posted by: olePigeon on 2023-06-14 16:38:19 @Tx76 There's also a free design for an ATX to IIci adapter. Includes soft power so you can still turn it on via the keyboard:
A friend designed an adapter for converting ATX to connect to a IIcx, IIci, IIsi, Q700, C/Q650, IIvx, IIvi, P600, Q800 and 7100. Handy for bench testing, and with a little work on mounting, may help with replacing PSUs. He has shared the design. You're free to make some for yourself. I've...

If you download the "alternative" design and upload it to your favorite PCB maker, they can preassemble everything for you. I had 5 made for under $12 at JLCPCB. I found JLCPCB really easy to use compared to PCBWay. |
