1mb L2 cache for 6100
Posted by: AlpineRaven on 2023-05-27 17:15:17
G'day all,
what are the chances to get 1mb L2 cache for my 6100/66 DOS compatible model.
Trying to give it boost as much possible.
Cheers

Apparently they're very hard to find. I also have a 6100/66 DOS, and I looked for a larger cache module for awhile, but had no luck.

Less than winning the lottery, I've been looking for about 10 years.
I have seen a few 512kb pop up on ebay over the years, but sellers wanted crazy money for them.

I have find one recently, but it was a "gamble" : the seller didn't know what it was and I wasn't sure either https://www.journaldulapin.com/2023/12/19/upgrading-a-power-mac-6100-with-a-1mb-cache-memory/

You gut lucky!
I remember, back in the day, the performance improvements with the L2 cache were quoted as being between 30% and 50% speed improvements with the 512K stick. I guess the the figures were all about marketing.

Speaking of which...
...which is the cheapest I can remember seeing them.
