Asanté Micro EN/SC (help)

Message in a bottle !

I've got one of those, a Micro EN/SC from Asanté. This is a device supposed to give Ethernet support to HDI30 devices, mostly powerbooks (which I collect).

However the device does not work. I've opened it up, and there is nothing obvious to repair (capacitors or the like).
Maybe it's just broken, it's old - I get it 🙂 but there is so little info on these devices that I still have hope that maybe I'm not using it right.

First of there are a boatload of drivers for it, a lot of different versions, and they are super unclear about what version of MacOS they expect. They seem to support anything from 6 to 7xx in the driver from the picture - but I seriously doubt something like that works the same way with System 6.0.1 than it does with MacOS7.5.3. I also feel the UI is old fashioned for a 7.5 driver so I believe this expects a Macos very early in the 7.X.

My questions
- does anyone here have one of those, working ?
- what driver version would you recommend for Macos7.5.3 (I can test on a PB100, 145, 180)

My own unit crashes the powerbook when using the "debug" software. It also crashes the mac when switching to it in MacTCP.
The LEDs all work and make sense (power, link, tx/rx).

Any help/pointers appreciated.

I’ve got his big brother. Nice devices.

I also don’t think it doesn’t work. Must be something with drivers or so. But sorry. No device like this.

The floppy by the way is my own ; I've just made a fancy sticker. It is not the driver that canme with the card.

What behavior does it exhibit? Does it power on? Does it show up in something like SCSI Probe, etc? Which system software are you using it with?

Can you elaborate on scsi probe ? Where do I find that ?

It shows all signs of working especially the link ; power and rx light blink according to traffic …
But any attempt to use or access it crashes the system ( freeze )
I’m running driver v5.4.2 on System 7.5.5 , on a pb145 but it's the same on a PB100 .

The readme of that driver talks about the micro en/sc so I suppose it's a proper one,

https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/scsiprobe - useful utility for reporting what's on your SCSI chain.
