800k floppy switches?
Posted by: PotShotScott on 2023-05-18 10:06:01
Quick question - is the micro switch on the left complete/whole? I expect it to have a lever like the other side. Don’t have another one to compare with.IMG_1830.jpeg

You’re right, it should have a lever like the other one.

Is this why the motor never spins?

yes I think it might be. Do you have another switch?

There you go. You good with Desoldering and soldering?

Yep! Three weeks of soldering school in the Navy back in the 1990s has served me well.

Decided to try something. I loaded a disk, placed the drive on the ribbon cable and used a qtip to hold the micro switch down. Got a floppy icon on boot with an X in the middle. Sigh - I have another issue to fix before I put a new micro switch in...

The switch on the left is for read protection, the right is the one to detect the disk, so spinning the drive.

Your problem can be a bad disk or sorry head.
