| 800k floppy switches? |
Posted by: PotShotScott on 2023-05-18 10:06:01 Quick question - is the micro switch on the left complete/whole? I expect it to have a lever like the other side. Don’t have another one to compare with. |
Posted by: mloret on 2023-05-18 15:23:15 You’re right, it should have a lever like the other one. |
Posted by: PotShotScott on 2023-05-18 15:37:02 Is this why the motor never spins? |
Posted by: mloret on 2023-05-18 16:30:44 yes I think it might be. Do you have another switch? |
Posted by: PotShotScott on 2023-05-18 18:01:59 No but it looks like they’re available at mouser.com |
Posted by: mloret on 2023-05-18 18:03:48 There you go. You good with Desoldering and soldering? |
Posted by: PotShotScott on 2023-05-18 20:44:41 Yep! Three weeks of soldering school in the Navy back in the 1990s has served me well. |
Posted by: PotShotScott on 2023-05-18 20:58:34 Decided to try something. I loaded a disk, placed the drive on the ribbon cable and used a qtip to hold the micro switch down. Got a floppy icon on boot with an X in the middle. Sigh - I have another issue to fix before I put a new micro switch in... |
Posted by: bibilit on 2023-05-18 23:23:50 The switch on the left is for read protection, the right is the one to detect the disk, so spinning the drive.
Your problem can be a bad disk or sorry head. |
