| Macintosh SE/30 with a VDR-2a video card! | |
| Posted by: JT737 on 2023-05-13 09:07:56 I picked this up off of Buyee/yahoo Japan a few days ago. I put a sniper bid on it, expecting not to win....but by some miracle I did. Like most of us that look for SE/30's, what drew my eye to this machine was the fact that it had a video connector sticking out the back. Of course you never know what kind of video card you might get....but that's all part of the fun I suppose! The first thing that I will say: I am really impressed by how well the folks at the Buyee warehouse packed this machine for shipping. Great care was taken to insure that it traveled from Japan to the U.S. intact...A fact all of us here can appreciate! The machine itself was wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap, and then it was encased in what looks like a custom made foam packing. Very impressive. In the auction the machine was never pictured powered up, so I figured like most SE/30's that I have bought that this one too would not work. Imagine my surprise when I plugged it in and powered it up...and it worked pretty much flawlessly! This is combined with the fact that this SE/30 has probably the mintiest looking case that I have ever seen; absolutely no retrobriting will be required! There are some pretty cool programs on here that I am going to try to save-it looks like, once upon a time, someone might have used this machine to write/produce music. Also, I love the cool looking icons! And of course, I realize that I should replace the caps on this board ASAP, and I hope to do getting around to doing this in the next few weeks.         | |

| Posted by: ObeyDaleks on 2023-05-13 11:57:21 Congrats! AFAIK, those cards very common in Japan. I have a couple of them myself and they are very solid. They will also sit quite comfortably on top of an accelerator like the Diimo. Add one of those and a CD ROM drive like the AppleCD and it’s the ultimate 68K setup. If you don’t mind me asking, how much did you pay for shipping? | |

But in the end, the total purchase price was $325, which is pretty reasonable for what I got! @Juror22 -I very much enjoy getting a machine in this condition! The keyboard is actually from another machine that I purchased from Japan, but it does round out this machine! At any rate, I'm looking forward to completely going through this machine and having it as one of my star SE/30's! | |

I have an SE with videocard, but no idea as to what signal comes out of the DB15 connector, betting it ain't VGA 🙂 Still to research, witll have to probe a bit with my scope before guessing! | |

The way to tell is what the lugs on each side look like, usually. | |

| Posted by: JT737 on 2023-05-20 09:06:26 @ArmorAlley -I admit that I did neglect to mention that I had to start it up with extensions; for some reason, every time I tried to power it up with the extensions on, it crashed. I'd assume that the extensions give it the functionality to properly display Japanese characters, but I'm not sure. At any rate, in the end this machine will most likely get a SCSi2SD drive and a fresh operating system when I'm done with it! | |
