Floppy Drive conundrum trying to move files from 68K -> PPC G4
Posted by: EspiritLaguna89 on 2023-05-10 13:21:45
Hi all, I'm trying to establish a workflow for getting photos off my old QuickTake 100. I've got a PB 165 that works great for getting photos off the camera, my next step is to get them onto a bridge machine (in this case PowerBook G4 titanium with OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.1 installed). I got a USB 2 floppy drive and I'm having a ton of compatibility problems. I try copying the photos onto a disk on my PB165 and it always shows as unreadable on the TiBook.

Now, I have tried a number of troubleshooting steps- first I inserted the original PhotoFlash install floppies that are with the QuickTake and they read just fine. Second I put in a brand new blank Mac formatted floppy. It showed up on both machines! Great! But as soon as I copied my test pictures onto it, it wouldn't read in the TiBook. Same error as before

I'm stumped, I don't know if there's something I'm doing wrong, if my disks are the wrong type (1.44mb 2HD disks should work in both AFAIK) or what. Any help is much appreciated, I wanna see these images in full color!

Do you have any macs with an ethernet port and Serial ports?

Note the QuickTake software is also buggy. Try using GraphicConverter to convert them into jpgs, and only use PhotoFlash to download from the camera.

My TiBook has Ethernet, but it can't run PhotoFlash on OS 9. I also have a G3 PowerBook with serial ports and Ethernet that works for My QuickTake 200, but no floppy drive to install PhotoFlash (I could probably burn it onto a CD if its online somewhere).

Ah, so the fun part now is PhotoFlash doesn't really seem to work on OS8 or OS9. Fun

Does the update they mention help? It's buried in a CD disk image sadly.
