Salvaged chips reusable?
Posted by: pizzigri on 2023-04-16 02:32:14
Hello,
I apologize if this has been already asked, however I salvaged some chips from a bombed 6200 and I wanted to know if they could be used to repair other Macs and which. One should be an EGRET chip, the other a sound chip and the last is an oscillator. The small one just floated off when I lifted the EGRET.

Yes keep the Egret for sure, and the other also

SWIM chips are always in demand if you can manage to salvage that. So are ADB filters.

Uh I don’t think there’s a SWIM chip on the 6200, must be integrated
in one of the large ASICs, while what do ADB filters look like?

Not sure about on a 6200. I know on a IIci and IIgs it's a black box about the size of a sugar cube near the ADB ports. Might have 2 visible wires running along the top.

Didn't know they kept using the EGRET chip into the PPC era. Interesting to know.
