announcing beigeATX for 10 pin PSU Macs
Posted by: cjtmacclassic on 2023-04-04 09:23:02 Good morning everyone! I’ve been working on something for the past several months and I’m ready to share it here. Introducing: beigeATX: an ATX adapter with soft power support beigeATX is not the first of its kind, but does aim to be the first that is plug n’ play. beigeATX is fully assembled by myself here in St. Louis and is enclosed in a printed Mac-like beige enclosure. It’s fully reversible and requires no permanent modification to your computer. Both 20 and 24 pin connectors are supported, and it comes with a lengthy green wiring harness. I currently have enough components to build 25 units. Feel free to message me if you are interested, or visit my storefront at anserine.co Notes: beigeATX was developed independently, and initially for my own use. However, I understand not everyone in this hobby enjoys trudging through the depths of digikey and have chosen to build some hardware. beigeATX, while developed in good faith, is not guaranteed to work with all systems and the potential for damage is minimal, but does exist. As I have I have a limited number of machines available, beigeATX has only been validated on the IIcx, IIci, and IIsi, but will theoretically work with all 10-pin PSU Macs. I’m working to get other systems proven. Cooling: on some compatible systems, the PSU is the only source of airflow. I’m working on an adapter for this too, but for now I wouldn’t advise running such machines for extreme lengths of time. beigeATX is the first in a series of useful, reversible additions to your vintage Mac. The board design for broadATX is essentially final at this point, but sourcing the connectors I'd prefer to use has proven difficult. Early test boards are currently on the way. As you're an existing customer, I'd be happy to send you a board at BOM cost, provided you can give feedback on its performance. Assembled broadATX prototypes are still a couple of weeks out though.

Would I just be testing the board? If so I can wait a cohort weeks for a prototype - I have a Mac II in dire need of one.

It would be fully assembled - I’ve found a suitable alternative for the connector, in addition to changing the board layout. My primary concern is clearance - there are two axial capacitors that occupy the same area as broadATX when installed. I have a workaround planned if it turns out to be necessary though. I’ll be in contact when prototypes are assembled and ready. This looks great thank you! I'll have to get one for my 7100 I’ve got plenty still in stock and ready to ship! Let my know how it works out for your 7100 if you choose to get one 🙂

Or do you mean Mac II series, such as a IIci?
