MIDI for SE/30

Hey guys,

Trying to get my SE/30 to talk to my old MIDI keyboard. I tried using my old Passport MIDI interface. IT works with Mac and my IIGS, but it's old and I sure can't get the SE/30 to recognize it. I don't have any software to go with it. Can someone recommend an interface the would work? OR if you have been able to get your Passport interface to work, tell me the magic trick? 😉

I use the oddly-named MacMan MIDIMan with any Mac that lacks a USB port. It is driverless and works with all my 68K and PPC Macs.

They are common, cheap, and easily acquired on ebay.

Okay great suggestion. I am going to try a couple more things before I abandon my Passport interface. I really think I’m doing something wrong. I’ll tackle it tomorrow.

I got stuck a while back with the MIDI cabling on my SC88; on your keyboard MIDI in goes to out and out goes to in; didn’t seem logical to me but worked immediately

One trap, if you're using system 7, the Apple Midi driver /must/ go in the System Folder, not the Extensions Folder. The path is hard coded from Sys6 days somewhere.

Cubase 2.5 - Macintosh Garden

Cubase is a music sequencing program. This download is of version 2.5.1r3 and was sourced from MacGUI (originating from grenier-du-mac.net). This copy will run without authentication, at least when run from an emulator.

Yeah, it mentioned this on Macintosh Garden. I still couldn't get it to play with or out of my Casio MIDI keyboard 🙁

Opcode and Mark of the Unicorn were industry standard for professional MIDI in the 90's. I've used the following with an SE/30 with very good results.

Opcode - "Vision" and "Studio Vision Pro" Midi sequencing software. "Studio 4" MIDI interface hardware (around $50 used)
Uses "OMS" (Opcode MIDI System) MIDI routing software.

MOTU - "Performer" and "Digital Performer" software and "Midi Timepiece" hardware.(closer to $100 used).
Uses "FreeMIDI" MIDI routing software.

Steinberg Cubase and EMagic Logic Audio (which eventually became Apple Logic Pro) were other popular MIDI sequencers.

(All the software is on Macintosh Garden or Macintosh Repository.).
