Help Identifying Ethernet Card for LCII
Posted by: rushfan82 on 2016-06-18 00:04:48
I got a working LC from a friend, and it's got an ethernet card with some other connection (I believe a PDS) in it. I was wondering what this card is, and if there are any drivers for it. Thanks!

Possible to upload a higher resolution pic? I'm having trouble reading the numbers I would usually google.

My familiarity with LCs is limited, but that looks like a card that plugs into the PDS slot and has two types of Ethernet connectors - RJ-45 (modern standard) and a BNC/10Base2 connector (obsolete, looks like a cable TV plug).

Farallon made a lot of these cards, not sure if this is a Farallon, but you could try Farallon drivers - I'm pretty sure they are widely available online, I don't have the link handy. Asante is another common Ethernet card provider with widely available drivers.

It's a Farallon card.  Good luck finding drivers. You can try http://vintageapple.org/macdrivers/network.shtmlbut I had a hard time making the downloads work for me.

The Macintosh Driver Museum seems to be dead.

Thanks so much for the help. I will update with info once I get the drivers installed, (Stuffit is being weird on my LC right now)

Unfortunately, I couldn't find working drivers, so I'll have to put this off till I can find something.

Just my luck 🙁

I took another look through my folders. As I recall, I was able to get the attached file to work when networking my IIsi, and I think that's a Farallon card.

This exceedingly dense (but invaluable) site has more general information about Apple drivers you can download to help get a network interface working.

Alright, good news, it sees my connection. Unfortunately, Stuffit won't let me unzip the .sit of iCab 2.99, so I'm having some difficulty getting online. Do you be any chance have a disk image of a browser that works with System 7.5.3?

Good luck then. I have an LC II, but with an Asante ethernet card I never could get to work afaik. I had to re-seat the rom chip just to get it to do anything. Back when my Power mac 6100 worked I briefly worked with Netscape 4 I think (4.0.4 is apparently the last version that will work with 7.5.5). There were a number of issues with expired certificates on any https site though.

Is the .sit file damaged? Which version of StuffIt are you using? Maybe you need a newer version. I assume you got the icab .sit from http://www.icab.de/ ?

Maybe you could try a different internet application that isn't a browser. Perhaps something utilizing telnet or ssh?
