| Just scored a Performa 6400/200 |
Posted by: TonimusMaximus on 2023-03-22 19:37:26 After buying a 6100/60, I found a 6400/200 with a keyboard and mouse for $50.
Complete and supposedly boots.
My oldest and I are cleaning it now and will do a refurb while waiting for the 6100 to show up. |
Posted by: TonimusMaximus on 2023-03-23 11:17:58 Super simple 840 clock battery replacement. 2032 battery in some adhesive lined heat shrink. Positive and negative leads are just coiled and the heat shrink keeps them attached. Verified voltage (3.26V) and stuck on the old velcro. |

Cleaned and reassembled! Not a bad job for a 13 y.o. Time to install MDK š |
Posted by: TonimusMaximus on 2023-03-23 12:42:28 MDK is DEFINITELY on the list. One of my favorites at that age. |
Posted by: Phipli on 2023-03-23 12:53:11 Once you get the 6100 you'll need to play Marathon networked, and Super Maze Wars. Also F/A-18 Hornet.
To network them, all you need is a single standard Apple serial cable, long enough to reach š |
Posted by: TonimusMaximus on 2023-03-23 16:35:14 Burned a OS 8.6 install disk and it sounds like it boots to the CD. The Apple video to VGA adapter should be here tomorrow. Here's to hoping the adapter actually works. I haven't had a non-Intel Mac in the house since my iBook G4 died 10 years ago. |
Posted by: TonimusMaximus on 2023-03-23 19:13:09 Pulled the cooler, repasted it. While looking at overclocking the 6100, I noticed somewhere it said a 40mm fan fits in the heat sink. I think it was kan.org. 40mm happens to be the same size used for the Ender3 3D printer hot end. Ran a couple jumpers down to +12v and ground. |
Posted by: TonimusMaximus on 2023-03-24 20:53:24 Got the VGA and ATA-SD adapters today. Burned a new coy and installed 8.6. Going to install 7.5+ and 9, just because. I can verify everything works. Iām pretty damn happy. |

I did this myself, it runs super cool with that fan in there! Even if the PCI card is above it kinda muffling the fan, it still cools the CPU well enough. |
