PowerBook 165c capacitors
Posted by: joshc on 2023-02-21 03:11:09
Has anyone got a list of the capacitor values and the max height of said components that should be replaced in a 165c?

So far I've got...

Logicboard
None needed, it's already got solid components.

Backlight Inverter board

The inverter board and display board caps all appear to be small through-hole components.

First, the second board is part of the backlight inverter, not the display board. Also, any purple cap that you see there is a solid polymer and doesn’t need to be replaced. Not sure what’s up with C4, probably wasn’t populated from the factory?

LCD itself has some through holes. Don’t have the values on my website yet, but this should help:

There are only two caps that need to be replaced on the inverter board. They are 8.2uf 80v. They are kind of hard to find at that size and measurement. I found some on eBay that were much taller. I ended up bending them to fit. It worked out okay. Clean the contrast and brightness switches as well.

Why order on eBay to begin with? Just raises the chances of getting fake caps. I’d order from mouser or digikey if I were you.

True or actually very were old. I searched Digikey and Mouser for that value of capacitor. Mouser has them now. They don't match the small through hole currently on the board. All of them are tall axial versions, which is why I had to bend them into place. The ones I purchased on eBay were from the US vendor and they worked. I checked the value before placing them on the board.
