| Chime, White Screen and Mouse Pointer |
Posted by: flynn on 2023-02-03 06:29:05 My Quadra 660av chimes when started, displays a white screen and has a working mouse pointer. Initially I can hear the disk start to access but not for long as it gets stuck at that point.
Are there any other diagnostics or boot options I could try to use to figure out what the issue might be? |
Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2023-02-03 07:32:37 A failed hard disk can often hold up the SCSI bus, causing no blinking question mark floppy, but also no boot. If you unplug the hard disk, I'll bet you'll get the question mark and then from there you can boot from floppy or any other SCSI device. |

Posted by: flynn on 2023-02-03 09:23:05 I disconnected the HDD and got exactly the same result. I'll try and get a photo. |

The mouse moves when I move the mouse. But there is no sign of a the little Mac icon indicating that no OS could be loaded. Friendly chime occurs exactly when I expect it to also.
(I should also say that the wavy lines are an artifact of a 1 second shutter speed and you cannot see they on the display) |

Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2023-02-03 10:18:32 Could be the SCSI controller, but a recap is a good place to start. |

Do you have a good battery? Has it been recapped? I have done three of these units and they need recapping Battery is brand new but I'm wondering whether there is a PRAM issue due to the previous battery being about 3,000 years old and having now changed it. (Luckily the old battery didn't leak at all).
I want to do a little more debugging before I go in with a hot soldering iron. Next up is trying to boot from a floppy I think. |
