Mac classic no like floppy drive
Posted by: imactheknife on 2023-02-01 18:51:32
My classic will boot from floppy, although seems to take a long time. If i boot from scsi hard drive sometimes when i put floppy in, wont mount, might spin for s second then stop. I have tried three drives all the same. Any ideas? Bad swim chip?

Well, i being that this was still early in my soldering learning curve, will check for bad traces. This board I bought last spring and it was nasty.. two broken traces just in this area, plus i had to buy a new regulator and eaten pads.. so could be anything.. have a strong magnifying glass now to check for more broken traces. Board works good.. just wont mount the floppy

Hi,

I'm working on a Classic board that does the exact same thing. It will boot from a floppy but takes a very long time, probably around 5 or more minutes to boot to the desktop. It boots fine from a good hard drive and passes all logic board test on the Snooper v2.0 test utility. If I boot from the hard drive, a floppy won't mount on the desktop. Have you made any progress with your board?

I've successfully recapped and repaired well over 50 9" Macs and have a dedicated test jig for the Classic and Classic II logic and analog boards. This board has been cleaned and recapped and my test setup works perfectly with a good logic board and my analog board voltages are spot on.

Weird as it is, i put a pram battery in it, works without issue now.. see if that helps you too
