| PowerBook 180c hinge repair |
Posted by: AndyO on 2023-01-30 12:20:00 I have just received the two 3D printed hinge mounts to repair my 180c hinges which are both broken, but I'm unsure what glue to use to fix them in place.
I have seen mention of two possibles: JB Weld and Loctite Plastic Bonder, but wondered what others have used and found to work in this situation.
Thanks! |

The loctite stuff takes forever to cure, smells awful, and is quite thick. I wouldn’t recommend it for this task for this reason, it needs to sit flush. JB weld should work but I haven’t used it. |
Posted by: AndyO on 2023-02-03 12:25:13 Ah, thanks! By coincidence I was just watching a 145B fix by This Does Not Compute on YouTube and he used Loctite Super Glue Plastics Bonding System, so I'll consider that too, since it looks thin and bonds fairly quickly. So either that or the JB Weld.
I had planned to do this over the weekend, but absent the glue, it'll have to wait a bit longer. But at least the YouTube video gave me a good look at how to dismantle the display covers! |
Posted by: pezter22 on 2023-02-08 18:55:24 The This Does Not Compute video was very helpful. I printed up the same files to repair my PB145b and used the Loctite glue. You need to make sure the case is sanded down flat because the glue works quickly. The pieces will need to to be slightly trimmed to fit or sand the area to fit. These work great. Highly recommend them and beats my previous attempts with a two-part epoxy that took forever to set. |

Edit: oops, saw your other thread 🙂 https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?thr...y-housing-disassembly-help.43074/#post-469528 |
Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2023-02-14 15:29:05 Don't print that one for a 180c! The color models have a deeper rear housing and need a different part. Here's the right one: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5277307 |
Posted by: theducks on 2023-02-14 15:30:13 Thanks, I need it for a 170, but good to know that's an option for those! |
