connecting to tcp-ip printer
Posted by: reddrag0n on 2023-01-08 22:28:30
i'm trying to connect to my laserjet printer, but i think i am getting stuck. i followed the instructions on 68K Macintosh and a Modern Printer, but when it asks for the queue name, i put in the host name, thinking that might be it, and the ip address, everything say's it's ok. when i try to print though, i get an error "LaserWriter 8 cannot be used because of an internal error. -43" *otherwise known as file not found*
printer in question is a laserjet m1217nfw connecting to my performa 475

The printer doesn't support Postscript, thus will not work with those instructions. Another option is to use a VM or RPi running netatalk to provide AppleTalk printing services. That printer will likely require additional drivers/setup because its old enough to not even have AirPrint support.

does an HP envy photo 7800 support Postscript?

No modern consumer inkjet printer is going to support Postscript printing or LPD.
