I have found my old Mac Quadra 700 (and also some other goodies, namely a LC/475, Apple II/c and a Mac II cx) in my mom's attic. The were left there for the last 20 years or so. I had removed batteries from these ancient machines so no damage! But, I am very wary of powering them up. The Quadra 700 would be my first to turn on; it has all VRAM slots filled, and all RAM also filled up. No NuBus cards in it. I need to recover mouse and keyboard too, but I have good hope since there's another two boxes full of apple accessories. How can I connect it to mains without risking to damage it? | Posted by: olePigeon on 2023-01-07 12:37:08 The Quadra 700 and Apple //c are probably the safest machines to go ahead and plug in and test right away. The LC and IIcx may or may not work, but almost definitely will need new capacitors. You can find out what capacitors you'll need at this website.
If you're worried, you could connect them to a surge protector. That will allow you to turn it off right away if magic smoke escapes. | Posted by: pizzigri on 2023-01-07 12:44:06 Wow, that was a resource that I had not found! Great - thank you. | Posted by: joshc on 2023-01-08 07:31:49 I agree, the Q700 should just work, those used tantalum capacitors from the factory so they don't leak.
The 475 and IIcx will need recapping, they might work but do expect to have to do some soldering work on them.
Good luck! | | 1 |
