Posted by: ironborn65 on 2023-01-05 01:15:24Hi mates,
I have a cracked CRT of a Mac SE HDFD and a spare one from a Classic.
Can I replace the Mac SE CRT with the one from the Classic?
The resolution is the same but ...
Are the pins of the joke compatibile/equivalent?
Can I keep the coils or should I move the ones from the Se CRT to the Classic one?
To the moderators: Please consider making this a sticky as these questions get asked quite frequently on here. There have been some recent discussions about the CRTs used in compact Macs, specificallly in reguards to compatibility between machines. Having worked inside of dozens of compacts, I...

Anyhow, the broken CRT from the SE is a Clinton as the Classic and both have the same exact model number, there is small difference in the serial number: they are very close to each other.
The CRT from the Classic comes from the rev B board and from the thread it should not be compatible with the SE:
Still the plug for the CRT coils are the same,.
In the Classic the wires of the joke are soldered to the board, while the SE has a nice plug.
So, I'm tempted to simply swap the CRT, the only check I'll do first is to verify that the two small board in the CRT have the same circuit.
Any one can share their experience?
