Looking for old B&W game, maybe named "beast"
Posted by: Cloaked Alien on 2014-10-20 08:47:48
We had this game on my fathers computer back in the day. As far as we both can remember it was named "Beast".

The mechanics were simple. You moved your character around in four directions and you could blocks around to contain these monsters that were chasing you. The goal was to contain each monster (they died when they could not move)

I have yet to find this game anywhere and the harddrive of the computer that had the game has given in. He's found some old diskettes but I'm doubtful the game was ever backed up to floppy.

Battle Beast, maybe? http://macintoshgarden.org/games/battle-beast

Edit: sorry, this won't fit the description..

Found also "Shadow of the beast", but it is with colours. Also doesn't fit description.

What category would that be? Puzzle? Maybe action?

this sounds a LOT like RatRace from the Windows Entertainment Pack

I remember playing very similar game on a Ti/99 4A computer back in the old day.

Dang can't remember it either.  I think it had something to do with kangaroo?

I seem to remember a DOS game of the same name now.

I got a tip through PM (to avoid issues with possibly linking to abandonware).

I've confirmed that the game is "Beast 1.0", possibly developed by a guy names "Mike Vande Ven Jr."!

The DOS game above is indeed a clone, I made one myself back in the day. I wonder if I still have the Bortal Pascal for it somewhere, hmm.

I think that link is kosher because it is all shareware, no warez.
