Forgot to reinstall the microSD card in Bluescsi, flashing question mark on startup. Turned off, reinstalled, startup chime, gray screen, cursor freezed after 1 second, doesn’t boot.
Removing everything I can from the system, pram/reset switch doesn’t help. Power supple rail voltages look good. Never been recapped, but caps look ok… does this sound like a capacitor issue? Appreciate your ideas… | Posted by: Juror22 on 2022-12-10 20:51:18 I can guarantee that any Q605 will need caps by now, although the timing is a little strange, I'll admit. You may want to check your SCSI cable (did you remove the SCSI cable along with the Bluescsi?) is the floppy still attached? What does it do?
Just washing the board (thoroughly) may help (temporarily) if it is having cap issues. Not always, but it has worked for me in the past. | Posted by: Byrd on 2022-12-10 20:55:15 Check PRAM battery is good - otherwise you can do the "double tap" PSU switch trick to get it to boot, hopefully. | Posted by: opualuan on 2022-12-11 10:07:52 Pram battery is a few months old, voltage good. Double tap doesn’t help, as the video does come up properly. Even with floppy and scsi cable detached, pointer freezes up and no blinking question mark. With nothing at all plugged in except power/vid/adb, is this expected behavior?
I’m not certain if it’s ever been recapped, when I bought it there was a full 040 with fpu so the prev owner did make some updates. I’ll try recapping and see where that gets me. | Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2022-12-11 10:21:13 Post pics of your logic board, then we should be able to tell if the caps have been changed. | Posted by: opualuan on 2022-12-11 22:40:57 Appreciate the offer, but after looking at it closely it was clear- original caps and leaking underneath. Cleaned up and replaced with tantalum today, booting up! Next, recap the PSU… | Posted by: 3lectr1cPPC on 2022-12-12 04:02:55 Good job, and good luck! | Posted by: opualuan on 2022-12-14 20:47:16 PSU recapped as well. All working well! | | 1 |
