SE/30 PDS 040 accelerator - software
Posted by: macintosh2002 on 2022-11-24 14:42:34
I was able to get a few rare early 90s Apple Macintosh cards for a reasonable price I think.
One of that cards is this Total Systems Magellan 040 accelerator with a 68040 CPU, clocked at 25MHz. @joethezombie posted a thread about two years ago here https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/total-systems-magellan-040.36486/
But I cannot find the software to test this 040 upgrade. Any ideas?

Is there a spcific driver you have in mind for macintosh2002, Realitystorm?

If it is a total systems adapter, he could try
Total Systems
  • Gemstart 2.1 (24 k)
  • Gemstart 3.0 (34 k)
  • This 1991 driver was made for the Total Systems Gemini accelerators for the Macintosh SE. It also works with Novy Quik30 accelerators, and fixes the distorted sound problem that otherwise accompanies the Novy boards. The proper way to install this Control Panel on System 7 is to place it in the Extensions folder (so it loads first), and make an alias of it in the Control Panels folder (so you can easily open it).

Gemstart is for 68030 upgrades in the SE.

I cannot find it. I believe what you are looking for is the SwitchMatic control panel from Total Systems.
It may well work as a 68040 without any software, though - worth trying and seeing what TattleTech reports as the CPU when its plugged in.

Good call joshc, joethezombie mentioned having a copy in the old post, but I can't see any other mentions other than in old copies of MacWorld.

@joethezombie - do you have the files to share?

Yes, SwitchMatic is that software that for the card. I already tried the card without software, but TT does not recognize it, 68040 CPU get warm.

Have you messaged Joe? I'd also be interested in getting a copy of the software to add to my personal archive
