Excel on 512k
Posted by: DontGetHit on 2022-11-20 18:06:31
I have been trying to launch excel on my 512k but repeatedly get error ID=03. Anyone know a solution? I'm using the 1.03 image on the Garden. I wrote it using a Molar Mac and I've written other programs that work so I do not think that is the problem but I don't know.

Edit: The Mac has an 800k drive upgrade so that is not the problem.

Which system version is running on your 512k? Could be that Excel doesn’t like it for some reason. MultiPlan might work better.

Acc. to Wikipedia, Excel was first released in 1985, so it should work on the 512K.
I'm a fan of contemporary magazines. I'd have a look on in the MacWorld PDFs for 1985-86 on archive.org for the introduction of Excel.

September 1985 seems to be the issue for you: https://archive.org/details/MacWorld_8509_September_1985

It’s finder version 1.1 so maybe that’s the problem. Maybe I’ll make a system 2 disk and try that. If that doesn’t work I think I’ll try excel 1.5 since maybe the super early version is just unstable.
