| recover 1990/1991 audio file from Mac 68k | |
| Posted by: mgmac on 2022-11-20 10:50:31 hi I have a somewhat unusual request A person I met asked me for a favor, if I can recover a file that he used on a 68k Mac, probably a 68000 Mac which could be a Classic Mac or similar, probably in 1990/1991 The file in question is most likely an audio file, from an old recording, perhaps he tells me about QuickTime, most likely corrupt I tried with several of my programs, but I failed Does anyone want to try to recover it? If someone accepts the challenge, he then makes a father and a son happy 🙂 since it is presumably an old recording in which a child can be heard talking, therefore nothing private or military secret 🙂 I attach the file, which I compressed in .zip to avoid altering it by inserting it as an attachment in the forum Thanks to anyone who wants to try | |

| Posted by: Phipli on 2022-11-20 11:06:28 If it is a System 7 Sound format, the sound will have been stored as a resource and might have been stripped if it has been on a PC or sent in a way that didn't protect it. I don't have an appropriate machine set up, but I'd try with SoundEdit. If people struggle, I've got a fair amount of Sound software installed on my 9600 - I'll fetch it out. | |

I can hear something that sounds like a child's voice towards the end, but it appears to have been encoded in a very high frequency, or in a very weird format. I am using SoundExtractor 1.31 on my IIfx. I will also try on my iMac here as well. | |

I am currently trying to make it into something presentable. The speech is there...sounds like Spanish or Portuguese or something. | |

| Posted by: Daniël on 2022-11-20 11:53:31 I've been cracking it too, on my end it's an Apple MoviePlayer QuickTime video, showing a graphic of a car as well as the text Marco, followed by presumably the photo of Marco, who I also presume is heard talking. | |
| Posted by: LaPorta on 2022-11-20 11:53:42 It is an early QuickTime movie. QT 3.0 plays it just fine. Resource forks are also intact since it was wrapped in a DD archive. I have re-packaged it in Stuffit 1.5.1 format. Note: new QT under OS X will NOT play this file. I will see if I can reformat it into something newer. | |

This one has been run through FFMPEG to replace the audio with 22KHz MP3, just in case it might be an issue for the father and son on their devices. | |
