I picked up an SE/30 from a friend today, and it has a strange boot problem. I get the flashing question mark, which I assume means the hard drive is dying or dead. But when I hit the reset button, it comes right back to the folder, but with no question mark. It's kind of a hard problem to describe, so I uploaded a video to YouTube.
I don't have a T15 to crack open the case, but what should I look for first once I get the case open? Does the fact that it won't restart indicate problems deeper than just needing a new hard drive?
| Posted by: bibilit on 2016-05-28 23:39:00 SE/30 are notorious for having capacitor troubles in the Logic Board Area.
When the case will be opened, remove the logic board and clean it.
Leaking caps can short all sort of circuits.
Anyway, replace caps as soon as possible.
Hard drive is probably also faulty by the way.

| Posted by: Sani on 2016-05-29 19:11:25 Thanks. I ordered a long T15 and, as soon as it gets here, I'll get it opened up and take the battery out. Assuming it didn't explode in spectacular fashion, I'll send the motherboard off to be recapped.
