| Question: Can one use OS 9 via Classic to network with old Macs while running inside OS X? |

A thought occurred to me the other day, one which probably is not going to pan out, but I will ask a question anyway. OS 9 can file share with System 6. OS X has some difficulties doing so. I was wondering if there is any way if having OS 9 running through Classic on OS X that its networking protocols would also run at the same time as OS X's? I have no idea either way, but I was thinking that if this was possible, you could have the best of both worlds at the same time: OS X and OS 9 networking available. |

AppleTalk is available to Classic as I used to run the Shiva NetManager to setup my FastPath under OS X. I don't think the built-in File Sharing is available, you would have to try the real AppleShare server, which may not run on Classic. |

To the best of my knowledge: AppleShare IP does not run under Classic Mode. Apple sold the QuickSilver PowerMac G4 in a special education-only OS9+ASIP6 configuration for this reason. |

Mac OS X 10.2.8 can file share to 6.0.8 (following the correct update) see "Applefool". Using Classic Mode would only get you to Mac OS X 10.4.7.
I know you didn't mention this at all but when you get into AppleTalk Network Games and Network Printers you wouldn't want to go thru Classic at all. So you'd need to reconfigure. |
