| SCSI Zip drive cable |
Posted by: Machead on 2016-05-26 21:08:36 I have a SCSI Zip 250 drive, but unfortunately, I have no cable for it. Where might I find a replacement? Will any DB-25 male-to-male cable do? If not, why not?

Posted by: omidimo on 2016-05-26 22:33:23 IIRC the pin outs are not the same and will lead to some bad mojo.
SCSI Cables are also thicker and marked SCSI. It's been a while since I used an external SCSI Zip... 1998 prolly, so hopefully another member can confirm or correct me.

Posted by: Machead on 2016-05-27 10:54:06 Would this cable do? It's a DB25M to DB25M "extension" cable (I assume "extension" implies straight-through). Is three feet (914 mm) too long? It shouldn't be, since my old cable which broke wasn't much shorter.

Posted by: tanaquil on 2016-05-27 11:07:15 3 feet should be fine, but that is labeled as a serial cable, not sure if that would work. A good SCSI cable is likely to cost more like $25 (or more, but shop around, <$25 is reasonable).

No relation to seller, of course.

Posted by: fimbulvetr on 2016-05-27 12:16:35 I have a combo scsi/parallel zip drive, and it uses the same cable. Just plug it into the scsi or parallel port of whatever machine you want to use.

Posted by: CelGen on 2016-05-27 12:49:10 I don't think I've ever seen a difference between the parallel and SCSI DB25 cables. Both have worked fine. Can't be worse than the scarily thin ZIP Plus cables which are also universal.
