| Free IIGS Coming This Weekend | |
| Posted by: Scott Baret on 2016-05-25 22:47:25 It's funny how things have worked since I started getting into Mac collecting at age 12... My mom always yelled at me to not bring more Macs home. My dad always supported my hobby and gave me more Macs. Years after I moved out of home, my mom has changed positions and stores some of my Macs for me in her basement. Admittedly, some really haven't moved since before I moved out... My dad...thankfully hasn't changed. He's got a IIGS waiting for me. Apparently there are lots of extras, too...software, another ImageWriter II (as if I really needed another one since I already have four), a few disk drives... I'm not sure if the caps go on these things since I really haven't used one in a long time, but I'm looking forward to getting it. Most of the IIGSs I've used haven't had any native IIGS software to run on them. I have no clue where I'm going to put it though!! I also found a clamshell iBook for $25 on Craigslist. I'll pick that up sometime in the next week. I do plan on using it with some kids... | |

My parents found me a IIGS years ago too - unusually it was a machine I'd seen in use for many years in a local computer club (it was marked as such), ten years later a curbside find. They're reliable pieces of kit - cap failure isn't that huge an issue - you will also find some good educational software at: http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/reading The biggest stumbling block is getting software installed - it's possible but still a lot of work creating floppy discs from images - I'd potentially look into the CFFA3000 if you get into the machine.
